Women's Basketball: McGinn receives first-ever GNAC All-Conference Third Team honors

WINTHROP, Mass. - Capping off a remarkable four-year career with the Norwich University women's basketball team, senior forward Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Conference Third Team for the first time, as voted on by the league's 15 women's basketball coaches and announced by the league office today.  Her standout season saw her emerge as one of the most efficient scorers in the conference while cementing her place among the all-time greats in program history.

McGinn put together an impressive statistical campaign, ranking 12th in the GNAC in scoring with 15.3 points per game and 13th in rebounds per game at 7.5.  She was one of the most efficient shooters in the league, finishing second in field goal percentage at 58.1% and third in free throw percentage at 84.9%.  Her presence on the glass was equally formidable, ranking 14th in total rebounds with 181, 15th in defensive rebounds (120), and 17th in offensive rebounds (61).  She also made an impact defensively with 11 blocked shots, placing her 21st in the conference.

McGinn's selection makes her the first Norwich player to earn GNAC All-Conference Third Team honors since her teammate, Haley Brewster (Virginia Beach, Va.), was recognized with the same distinction during the 2023-24 campaign.

One of the defining moments of McGinn's season came on Jan. 7, 2025, in the Cadets' GNAC opener against Anna Maria College.  In that game, she eclipsed the 1,000-point milestone for her career, joining an exclusive group of Norwich greats.  Less than two weeks later, she recorded her season-high scoring performance with 29 points at Rivier University on Jan. 15.  McGinn's consistency was a key factor for the Cadets throughout the 2024-25 campaign, as she reached double-digit scoring in 21 games.

McGinn closes her career as the ninth all-time leading scorer in Norwich women's basketball history, finishing with 1,223 points.  She also amassed 759 rebounds, 92 assists, 80 steals, and 39 blocks while recording 23 career double-doubles.  Her career field goal percentage of 56.3% ranks second all-time in program history, trailing only Shevon Gibbons' record set in the 2001-02 season.

Junior Mallorie Chalmers (Milton, Vt.) represented Norwich on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.  Chalmers appeared in 23 games this season, amassing 64 points, 40 rebounds, 12 assists, five steals, and three blocks.  She netted a career-high 14 points in 20 minutes on 6-10 shooting against Regis (Mass.) College while also tallying eight points versus JWU (Providence).  Chalmers dished out three helpers in a victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle in her second tilt of the season.

The Cadets concluded the 2024-25 campaign with a 10-14 overall record.
