Women's Cross Country: Whitmarsh, Winters lead Norwich, Cadets conclude season at NCAA Div. III Mideast Regionals

WATERFORD, Conn. - The Norwich University women's cross country team closed their season by finishing 22nd out of 24 teams at the 2024 NCAA Div. III Mideast Regional on Saturday morning at Harkness Memorial State Park.

The Cadets tallied 715 points, topping Clarkson University and Western New England University while battling premier competition and top talent from teams from across the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions.

Delaney Whitmarsh (North Yarmouth, Maine) led Norwich's runners, crossing the line in 25:10.1 in Saturday's 6K to finish in 122nd, capping off an impressive freshman campaign that saw the first-year earn Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Year plaudits earlier this month.

Cece Winters (Waco, Texas) was next to finish, posting a 26:41.4 effort to check in at 146th.  Joelle Moore (Swanton, Ohio) and Shannon Driscoll (Wakefield, Mass.) recorded back-to-back finishes at 158th and 159th on 27:43.4 and 27:45.4 times, respectively.

Jasmyn Jackson (Fort Drum, N.Y.) rounded out the five scorers, finishing 166th on 29:21.1.  Wendy Cantor Hernandez (Dobson, N.C.) and Alexandra Velez (Gainesville, Va.) filled out Norwich's seven participants.

Williams College won the team title with 59 points, while the next five teams were separated by just six points. RPI finished as runner-up with 110 points, followed by Amherst College (110), Vassar College (111), Middlebury College (112) and Connecticut College (116).  RPI's Jules Bleskoski took individual medalist honors with a time of 20:47.3, finishing 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Haley Schoenegge of Vassar.

WOMEN'S LEADERS: The Cadets conclude an impressive 2024 campaign that saw Norwich finish fourth in the GNAC Championship, while Whitmarsh and Winters both received GNAC All-Conference recognition after finishing within the top 14 at the league's title meet.
