HINGHAM, Mass. - The Norwich University men's golf team captured their first team title of the season while
Cooper Bertrand (Caledon, Ont.) thrillingly earned his second individual title, as the Cadets topped New England College and Emmanuel College in the regular season-closing Emmanuel College Invitational at the South Shore Country Club on Wednesday afternoon.
Norwich fired a +36 effort on the day, finishing three strokes ahead of New England College, the defending Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Champions, while clearing the Saints by 15 strokes.
A week and a half removed from his first individual title in the Keene State Invitational, Bertrand secured his second crown after finishing with a +4 on the day, defeating NEC's Bryce Sturm's +6 score.Â
Thomas Riddick (Clayton, N.C.) strung together his most impressive performance of the season, coming in third on a +7 effort.
The Cadets checked in in quick succession in a narrow field, as
Harrison Giambattista (Danielson, Conn.) came in a tie for sixth on +11.Â
Jordan Dustin (Concord, N.H.) and
Ben van Waterschoot (Whitby, Ont.) rounded out Norwich's effort, finishing in ties for 10th and 12th, respectively.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS:
Norwich will carry its first team title of the season into the postseason, as the Cadets will make the trek to the Concord Country Club in Concord, N.H., for the two-day GNAC Championships on Monday, Oct. 14, and Tuesday, Oct. 15. The Cadets finished as runners-up last season to the Pilgrims. Start time for both days is slated for 9:00 a.m.
The winner of the GNAC Championship will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Div. III Men's Golf Championship, scheduled from May 20 to May 23, 2025, at the Midvale Country Club in Penfield, N.Y.
