NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Men's Soccer team closed out their regular season with a midweek home contest against Colby-Sawyer Tuesday night.
After an extended feeling out process, the Cadets would strike.
Hunter Lortie (Manchester, N.H.) would pick the pocket of a Charger defender in the attacking midfield before sending it ahead to
Diego Fuentes (Valencia, Spain). Fuentes would catch the Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper Yener Bartolon off-guard sending a ball from 35 yards out over his head to the bottom right corner to give Norwich the lead in the fourth minute. The two sides traded chances throughout the frame, but the score remained 1-0 at the break.
Out of the intermission, the Cadets had opportunities by Fuentes and
Dillon Hamrell (Williston, Vt.) that were shut down by Bartolon, which was answered by a
Nicolas Lanza (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) save. Late in the half, the Chargers were awarded a free kick off a foul where they would connect with the equalizer in the 89
th minute.
Norwich will return to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament in their next contest where they will play host to Regis in the play-in round Thursday afternoon at 3 PM.
