NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Men's Soccer team returned to postseason action Thursday afternoon when they hosted Regis in an eight seed vs nine seed battle in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Play-In Round.
Out of the gate, the Cadets put their foot on the gas and generated numerous chances in the offensive end with shots by
Hunter Lortie (Manchester, N.H.),
Ben Rubinstein (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.),
Christian Grubic (Montvale, N.J.), and
Kam Jorgenson (Titusville, Fla.) being turned away. The half would end scoreless despite Norwich outshooting the Pride 9-1 with netminder Chris Alcon making three saves.
It was much of the same story in the second half, with Regis weathering the storm giving up ten shot attempts and allowing seven corners, but keeping the game deadlocked at zero after 90 minutes. In the extra frame, the Pride were awarded a corner from which the ball deflected off a Norwich defender into the net for the game winning tally. The Cadets' season comes to a close with a 6-8-3 overall record.
