Men's Soccer: Cadets Blaze by Elms with First Half Flurry

CHICOPEE, Mass.- In their final road contest of the regular season, the Norwich Men's Soccer team took on Elms Saturday evening as they continued to jockey for position in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoff picture.

Two minutes in, the Cadets struck. A Ben Rubinstein (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) shot careened off the crossbar, then immediately came to Judah Adams (St. Petersburg, Fla.) who potted the rebound giving Norwich the early lead with his first collegiate goal. The Blazers responded with an equalizer six minutes later, but Norwich continued to dominate the possession game and were rewarded for their efforts.

In the 37th minute, Diego Fuentes (Valencia, Spain) took a corner, which he sent in finding Jeremy Pless (Titusville, Fla.) before Kam Jorgenson (Titusville, Fla.) found the back of the net breaking the deadlock. Four minutes later, Fuentes took a free kick that found Rubinstein to give Norwich a two-goal lead at the break where they held a 17-2 advantage in shot attempts, 12 of which were on target.

Rubinstein would strike again early in the second to make it a 4-1 game. Along with the two goals, he had seven shot attempts with four on goal. Oleksandr Kharchuk (Ukraine) also had three shots on goal.

The Cadets will round out the regular season Tuesday night when they play host to Colby-Sawyer at 7 PM.
