WEYMOUTH, Mass- The Norwich University Men's Rugby team lost in the New England Wide Collegiate Rugby Conference (NEWCRC) Championship 25-7 to the University of Vermont Saturday evening.
The Catamounts took a 15-0 lead into halftime and would score 25 straight points until senior
William Moulton (Danvers, Mass.) got the Cadets on the board with a try followed by a
Ben Steen (Sandwich, Mass.) conversion.
The defeat was the first in NEWCRC play for the Cadets since Sept. 2019 and leaves Norwich as the second seed in National Collegiate Rugby's (NCR) Sweet Sixteen in the Division II bracket for their sixth consecutive berth in the tournament where the Cadets have advanced to the National Final Four four times in the last five years. Norwich's first opponent in tournament play will be the top seed from the Mid-America Rugby Football Union, Georgetown in Culpeper, Va. On Friday Nov. 18 with the time to be announced.
