Men’s Ice Hockey: Cardinals Clip Cadets in FirstLight Final

NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich University Men's Ice Hockey team fell to Plattsburgh State 3-1 in the FirstLight Shootout Final on Saturday night at Kreitzberg Arena.

The Cadets got off to a sluggish start not registering a shot in the first five and a half minutes. By that point Norwich was behind the eight ball courtesy of a goal by sophomore Jack Ring (Hingham, Mass.) and would go into first intermission down 2-0.

In the second the Cadets would start to wake up outshooting the Cardinals 11-9 in the period. However, Ring's second of the game gave Plattsburgh a 3-0 lead late in the middle frame.

The Cadets finally broke through early in the third period with sophomore Alex Lewis (Moncton, New Brunswick) breaking the shutout with Paul Schmid (Linz, Austria) and Keegan Mantaro (Monument, Col.) tallying the assists. The Cardinals withstood a late Cadet push led by tournament MVP Eli Shiller (Toronto, On.) and his 30 saves on the night.

"I thought we had a very average start and dug ourselves an early hole." Said Head Coach Cam Ellsworth. "But, we rebounded. I thought our second and third was pretty good but we need to have a better start."

The Cadets return to new England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action Friday night Dec. 2 when they visit seventh ranked Babson at 7 PM.
