HANOVER, N.H. - The Norwich men's rugby team scooped up a thrilling victory on Friday, topping Dartmouth in a Development 15s tilt on the road, 19-10.
On a beautiful afternoon, the green machine dominated the first 10 minutes by keeping the Cadets at bay in their own territory until #8 senior
Andrew Carter unlocked Dartmouth's grip and scooted 45 yards for five points with an added two for the conversion by
Brendan Coyne for a 7-0 lead.Â
Â
Dartmouth's pack was strong, but their backs could hear footsteps as the cadets came charging once their scrum half passed to the flyhalf. Bad passes and drops caused turnovers, paying off dividends for the Cadets.
At the 25 minute mark,
Doran Schwartz, put a second dent in Dartmouth's machine when he intercepted a pass and ran 40 yards for a score. Â
Brendan Coyne added the conversion to extend NU's lead to 14-0.Â
At halftime, a Halloween fog made its presence known while the sun kept dropping, which proved ineffective against Norwich's growing momentum.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, NU continued its dominance, with Schwartz tallying another to push the lead, 19-0. The last 10 minutes saw Dartmouth gain some confidence by touching the ball down twice for 10 points.
NU played with confidence, terrific skills, and tenacity.
