BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Norwich University men's rugby team dropped a tight 32-29 decision in NECRC regular season play at the University of Vermont Saturday afternoon.
Norwich jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first half on a try by junior Mark Hill in the 21st minute followed by a conversion by junior Keegan Frick (Thornton, Pa.). Frick then scored on a penalty in the 25th minute to make it 10-0.
The Catamounts converted a penalty in the 32nd minute to make it 10-3 before Frick scored on a try and completed the conversion in the 35th minute to stretch the lead to 17-3.
UVM scored on a penalty in the 40th minute to cut the score to 17-6 at the half.
The Catamounts opened the second half with four consecutive tries (45th, 48th, 52nd and 60th) to take a 32-17 advantage.
Another try by Hill in the 62nd minute followed by a Frick conversion cut the UVM lead to 32-25.
The Cadets got a try from junior Anthony Candrelli followed by another Frick conversion in the 78th minute to wrap up the scoring from the match.
The Catamounts improve to 2-1 on the season while the Cadets fall to 1-2.
Norwich is next in action on Saturday, October 3rd during NU Homecoming Weekend. The Cadets host Coast Guard at 2:00 p.m. at the Dog River Rugby Pitch.
