STONINGTON, Conn. – The Norwich University men's rugby team opened up its 2014 fall regular season with an impressive 24-15 victory on the road at rival Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon.
Thomas St. Pierre (Warwick, R.I.), Dan Burkhart (Medfield, Mass.), Shaquille Malcolm and Michael Dowling (North Caldwell, N.J.) each scored a try to lead Norwich to the key Northeast Collegiate Rugby Conference (NECRC) opener victory.
Dowling added two more conversions to round out the offense as Norwich won the first time at Coast Guard in head coach Bob Weggler's 14th season at the helm of the program.
Norwich (1-0, 1-0 NECRC) will look to keep the momentum rolling next weekend when it hosts the University of Vermont at 2 p.m. at the NU Dog River Rugby Pitch as a part of Norwich Homecoming Weekend 2014.
