The No. 10 seed Norwich men's ice hockey team continues its NCAA Tournament run Saturday afternoon, traveling to face No. 3 seed Hamilton College in a national quarterfinal matchup at Russell Sage Rink. With a trip to the NCAA Semifinals on the line, the Cadets look to build on their red-hot postseason form after capturing the Little East Conference (LEC) title and earning a dominant opening-round victory.
Playoff Runs
Norwich enters the quarterfinal riding significant momentum.
The Cadets rolled through the Little East Conference Tournament, outscoring UMass Boston and Babson by a combined 10-1 margin to claim the inaugural league championship.
Norwich carried that form into the NCAA First Round at Salve Regina, striking twice in 19 seconds early in the first period before adding another late in the frame to seize a 3-0 lead. The Cadets never looked back, cruising to a 6-1 victory to advance.
Hamilton's path has been more turbulent down the stretch. The Continentals went 2-3 over their final five regular-season games before edging Connecticut College in a tightly contested NESCAC Quarterfinal. Hamilton then fell in overtime to eventual conference champion Williams in the semifinal.
In the NCAA First Round, however, the Continentals responded emphatically, breaking open a 2-2 game with four unanswered third-period goals to defeat Neumann, 6-2.
Recent History
The two programs met last season in the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament Championship game at Kreitzberg Arena.
Hamilton struck early with a power-play goal just two minutes into the contest and built a 3-0 advantage before Norwich broke through. The Continentals regained control in the third period and secured a 4-1 victory.

Norwich Leaders
Norwich brings a deep and balanced offensive attack into the national quarterfinal, with seven players surpassing the 20-point mark this season.
Ben van Waterschoot has been one of the Cadets' hottest players down the stretch, tallying 29 of his 31 points since Jan. 10 while earning Second Team All-Conference honors. During that same span,
Zach Ophoven has surged offensively, scoring 12 goals to take over the team lead.
On the back end, junior captain
Cooper Bertrand continues to anchor the Norwich defense while producing a career-best season, finishing with 25 points and earning First Team All-Conference recognition.
About the Continentals
Hamilton features a high-powered attack led by two-time NESCAC Player of the Year Luke Tchor, who has recorded 30 points (16 goals, 14 assists).
Tchor is joined on the First Team All-NESCAC squad by defenseman John Wojciechowski, while Devon de Vries — tied with Tchor for the team lead in points — earned Second Team honors. The Continentals boast depth throughout the lineup with several additional All-Conference contributors.
Between the Pipes
Goaltending will once again play a pivotal role.
Norwich turns to
Sami Molu, the LEC Goalie of the Year, First Team All-Conference selection, and Tournament MVP. Molu has been outstanding in postseason play, stopping 94 of the 96 shots he has faced.
Hamilton counters with Aksel Reid, who owns a .919 save percentage, a 1.88 goals-against average, and five shutouts on the season, earning Second Team All-NESCAC recognition.
What's at Stake
With a berth in the NCAA Semifinals at Utica's Memorial Auditorium on the line, two of the nation's top programs will meet in Clinton for a high-stakes quarterfinal battle.
The winner will advance to face the victor of the Endicott vs. Aurora matchup. At the same time, the Cadets aim to continue their postseason surge and push one step closer to a national championship.
