PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.- Playing their third game in five days, the Norwich Men's Soccer team traveled across Lake Champlain to take on regional foe Plattsburgh State Wednesday evening in the first meeting between the two programs since 2017, in a meeting between two coaches, Chris Taylor and
Robert Emmett, that helped guide Vermont Green to a USL League 2 National Title.
From the opening kickoff to the final whistle, the story of the contest revolved around senior goalkeeper
Kirk Rodgers (Lebanon, Ohio). The Cardinals dominated throughout, but Rodgers stood tall at every turn, stopping all 14 shots on target.
Against the flow of play late in the opening half, Norwich was awarded a corner, where
Gabriel Cantarero (Annapolis, Md.) had an opportunity that misfired. Plattsburgh continued to press in the second half but were repeatedly turned away, notching the Cadets' first non-losing result against the Cardinals since 2010.
The Cadets will begin Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) competition in their next contest when they host Dean on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m.
