NORTHFIELD, Vt. - For the third consecutive year, Norwich University proudly welcomed athletes, families, and fans for the Vermont Principals' Association Unified Basketball State Championship, held on Wednesday, May 22 inside Andrews Hall.
This year's championship game brought together two of the top teams in the state, Middlebury Union High School and Burr and Burton Academy, in a thrilling, high-energy finale that served as a celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, and inclusion. After a hard-fought battle from both sides, Middlebury emerged victorious, claiming the 2025 state title in front of a spirited crowd.
The VPA Unified Basketball Championship continues to stand as a hallmark of inclusivity in high school sports, with student-athletes of all abilities taking the court side by side. Norwich University was once again honored to serve as the host site for this meaningful event, which continues to grow in scope, impact, and excitement year after year.
Adding to the significance of the event, representatives from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) were in attendance to show their support for Unified Sports and the mission of inclusion. GNAC Commissioner

Maria Spylios were all on-site, engaging with athletes and distributing GNAC Championship shirts to both teams following the conclusion of the game, a gesture that brought additional recognition and joy to the moment.
The championship also drew significant media attention across the region. WCAX, ABC22/FOX44, NBC5, and the Burlington Free Press were all present to capture the action, interview participants, and showcase the event across their broadcast and digital programs. Their coverage helped shine a wider spotlight on Unified Basketball and the incredible student-athletes who participate in it.
The event's continued success reflects a strong partnership between the VPA, Special Olympics, and Norwich University, and further cements the tournament's status as one of the most uplifting and impactful competitions in Vermont high school sports.
