Men's Rugby: Norwich reaches semifinals in Chris Munn 7s Tournament

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's rugby team put together a strong showing at the 2025 Chris Munn 7s Tournament on Sabine Field, advancing to the semifinals before falling to Dartmouth College in a hard-fought battle.

The tournament, held annually in honor of Chris Munn '81, brought together eight teams for a full day of high-intensity sevens competition.  A former Norwich rugby captain, U.S. Army Colonel, and devoted advocate for ALS awareness, Munn's impact continues to resonate deeply within the Norwich rugby community.  The event serves as both a tribute to his legacy and a showcase of the Cadets' rugby tradition.

Norwich's A Team dominated pool play, opening the tournament with a commanding 29-0 shutout over Middlebury College before rolling past the University of New Hampshire, 45-0.  The Cadets closed out pool play with another dominant effort, defeating the University of Vermont's B Team, 33-5, to advance to the semifinal round.

In the semifinals, Norwich squared off against a tough Dartmouth College side.  The Cadets battled throughout, keeping it close, but ultimately fell, 17-7, ending their run just short of the championship match.  Dartmouth went on to face the University of Vermont in the final, where UVM secured the tournament title with a 28-12 victory.

Norwich's B Team also saw competitive action throughout the day, earning a 34-0 shutout victory over University of New Hampshire B/Norwich C and gaining valuable experience against strong opponents.

While the tournament was filled with exciting rugby, the day's greater significance was in celebrating Chris Munn's legacy.  His dedication to Norwich, both on the pitch and in his military career, continues to inspire the Cadet rugby family.

Norwich men's rugby now looks ahead to the NACR 7s Championship on Sunday, Apr. 13, where the Cadets will continue to build on their strong sevens season.
