Men's Wrestling: Russ Named NWCA Scholar All-American, Team Named Scholar Champions

MANHEIM, Pa.- Over the weekend, the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) released its academic awards for the 2024-25 campaign, where the Norwich Wrestling team was recognized both individually and as a team.

On the individual level, first-year 157-pounder Tyler Russ (Freehold, N.J.) was named an NWCA Scholar All-American. To be eligible for this honor, you must finish in the top eight of your regional tournament or have a win percentage over 66% in at least 15 matches while holding a cumulative GPA above 3.2. At Northeast Regionals, Russ finished seventh, capping off a season where he accumulated 30 wins to go along with achieving a 4.0 GPA as a Mechanical Engineering major.

"The NWCA is proud to honor these outstanding individuals who demonstrate excellence on the mat and in the classroom as well," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer.

As a team, the Norwich Wrestling team earned distinction as a Team Scholar Champion. The Cadets finished the season with a 3.677 team GPA, placing them 15th in Division III, ahead of institutions such as WPI and Springfield College.

The Cadets finished their campaign at Northeast Regionals earlier this month.
