STANDISH, Maine- Continuing their early season road trip, the Norwich Women's Soccer team made its way to Saint Joseph's College of Maine for a Saturday afternoon contest.
The Cadet defense was put to the test early on as the Monks pressed the attack, but
Rebecca Karis (Fayetteville, N.C.) was equal to the task making a big early save on the lone shot on goal of the early flurry. Midway through the frame, Norwich countered with offense of their own as
Lindsey Duggan (Belmont, N.H.) had several opportunities that were turned aside. As the half wound down, the Monks went back on the offensive, but Karis shut the door making three saves to keep the game scoreless at the half.
Six minutes into the second half, Norwich would open the scoring. Duggan gained possession in the midfield and would pass it off to
Kat Probst (Gouverneur, N.Y.). Probst, heading towards the goal drew defenders to her, leaving
Bella Roy (Weare, N.H) open for the tap in goal to break the ice. After Karis held the fort, play would come back the other way. In the 72
nd minute,
Abby Kirrane (Lunenburg, Mass.) hit Probst on a throw in in the attacking midfield. Prost singlehandedly dribbled the ball into the box, pushed aside defenders and added onto the Cadet lead.
Karis would shut the door down the stretch, locking down the 2-0 shutout where she would make eight saves, to go with a goal and an assist for Probst on the offensive side. The Cadets will return home Tuesday evening Sept. 17 to host Regis at 5 PM to open a six game homestand.
