NORTHFIELD, Vt.- To round out their 2024 campaign, the Norwich Softball team took the field on senior day to take on Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) North foe Anna Maria after honoring graduates Liliana Rolfe (Plainville, Mass.) and Julia Vawter (Pelham, N.H.).

The Cadets jumped in front quickly in game one. After a leadoff walk, Rachel Kempf (Warwick, R.I.) attempted to score on a Madison DeCota (Strafford, N.H.) double, but was thrown out. The throw moved DeCota to third, where she would come home on a wild pitch for the only run of the game.

After scoring the run, DeCota went to work in the circle and shut down the AMCATs. In a complete game shutout, she allowed three hits and two walks while striking out six while also going two for three at the plate.

The stalemate between the two sides continued into the early goings of game two with Anna Maria opening the scoring in the top of the fourth, but Norwich answered in the bottom half. A leadoff double by Hailey Williams (Tamaqua, Pa.) would put her in scoring position, and was eventually brought home on a Taylor Farnsworth (Saint Johnsbury, Vt.) sacrifice fly to retie the game.

Williams would also get things going in the sixth with a leadoff single before working her way around the bases and coming home on a Courtney Thomas (Strafford, N.H.) fielder's choice to break the deadlock. Eventually, the bases would be loaded for DeCota who would plate Thomas with an RBI single to pad the lead. Kempf would come home on an AMCAT error to make it a three-run game. Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) kept Anna Maria at bay allowing the lone run in a complete game completing the sweep.

The Cadets round out their season doubling their 2023 win total.
