MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Norwich softball team rounded out their spring break trip with two games against Penn State satellite schools.
Game one against Penn State Schuylkill started with a bang for the Cadets.
Taylor Farnsworth (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) started the top of the second with a leadoff double to left and was brought home two hitters later on a sacrifice fly by
Julia Vawter (Pelham, N.H.). The Nittany Lion bats woke up in the bottom of the third where they plated two runs and continued their momentum in the bottom of the fourth to take home the win. Also notable for the Cadets was
Liliana Rolfe (Plainville, Mass.) went two for three, including a run scored in the fifth.
The second game of the day came against Penn State Abington,
Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) locked in a pitchers' duel. McGinn would allow one run and three walks in five innings of work. Abington struck first in the top of the fifth, but Norwich knotted things up in the bottom of the sixth. A Nittany Lion error, and two straight walks loaded the bases, eventually
Rachel Kempf (Warwick, R.I.) singled in McGinn to tie the game. The following half inning, Abington would plate two runs to take the 3-1 win.
Up next for the Cadets, they will return to New England and take on Bridgewater State in doubleheader action on March 16.
