VERO BEACH, Fla.- The Norwich baseball team played their penultimate games of their spring break trip when they took on Elizabethtown in a doubleheader.
In his second start of the season,
Carson Rath (Glens Falls, N.Y.) battled hard and kept the Blue Jays at bay as they were only able to scratch across one run in the first three innings and would strand six runners over that period. However, Elizabethtown would extend their lead in the bottom of the fourth with three runs. After the Blue Jays would plate two more runs in the fifth, the Cadets would find the scoreboard with a bases loaded sacrifice fly by
Dillan Garza (San Antonio, Texas) that scored
Kevin Ohlsen (Shirley, N.Y.). Norwich would reload the bases in the inning, but the Elizabethtown bullpen wiggled out of trouble to preserve the 6-1 win.
The Blue Jays continued to roll in game two, finding the scoreboard in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly after a leadoff triple. After that,
Matt Ingraffia (Lake Grove, N.Y.) settled in and kept the game within reach in a swiftly played pitchers' duel. Elizabethtown would pad their lead in the late innings. Norwich broke through in the seventh with
Jakob Hayes (Arlington, Texas) plating
Michael Sabasteanski (Ashburn, Va.) on an RBI groundout.
Norwich will round out their Florida trip with a double dip against Kenyon College on the morning of March 8.
