MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- Norwich softball continued their spring break trip with two more contests.
First up was a matchup with Centenary University (N.J.), a matchup that opened with
Reese Autiello (Greenwich, N.Y.) finding her way to third on a three-base error. Autiello was driven in two batters later by
Madison DeCota (Strafford, N.H.) to put Norwich ahead early. The Cyclones would tie the game in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single and would score two more runs in the bottom of the third. Trailing 4-1 in the seventh,
Julia Vawter (Pelham, N.H.) would score on an error to shrink the Centenary lead to two, but that where the score would stand.
In game two, the Cadets would take on Bay Path, which was scoreless until the top of the third where Norwich would jump ahead. The inning began with a
Liliana Rolfe (Plainville, Mass.) walk. After advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt, Rolfe would come home on an RBI single by
Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) to open the scoring.
Norwich built up some breathing room in the top of the fifth courtesy of several Wildcat miscues. To lead off the frame, Rolfe reached on an error, and got to third with DeCota reaching on a two-base error. During the next at bat, Rolfe would come home on a wild pitch and DeCota would go to third preceding a McGinn walk. After McGinn stole second,
Gianna Missiti (Bedford, Mass.) plated both runners with a single to extend Norwich's lead to 4-0.
Bay Path would scratch across a run in the seventh, which was the only blemish on DeCota's pitching record for the day as she would go the distance tossing just 81 pitches.
Norwich's spring break trip in Myrtle Beach will continue Thursday morning when they take on Misericordia and Penn College.
