Men's Lacrosse: Fleury tallies five points, Cadets stalled on the road by Mass. Maritime

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - Despite six Cadets ripping shots between the pipes, the Norwich University men's lacrosse team fell victim to an offensive onslaught by Massachusetts Maritime Academy, dropping a 20-8 non-conference contest to the Buccaneers on Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Drew Fleury (Nashua, N.H.) paced the offensive, tallying a hat trick behind three goals while also handing out a pair of assists.  Five other Cadets logged a goal each, with Tyler Seidel (Centreville, Md.), Christian Rainis (Wynantskill, N.Y.), Matt Meehan (Norfolk, Mass.), Noah St. Germaine (Plymouth, Mass.), and Mitchell McKay (Lynnfield, Mass.) all finding themselves with points.  Rainis, Meehan, and McKay all added helpers.

Norwich seized the first opportunity, as Meehan found Fleury for the game's first goal less than three minutes in.  The Buccaneers quickly claimed momentum, however, taking the lead over the ensuing two minutes while adding two more goals to close out the first quarter.

McKay capitalized on a man-up opportunity to slice Mass. Maritime's lead in half to kick off the second frame, but a score on a man-down chance from the Buccaneers spurred another four-goal spurt.  Norwich again responded, sniping in a pair of goals to again cut the lead in half, but Mass. Maritime would outscore the Cadets, 12-4, to claim victory.

The Cadets generated 26 Buccaneer turnovers while going a near-perfect 24-27 on clear attempts.  Mason McMahon (Norwich, Conn.) was responsible for four of 10 caused turnovers.

Norwich will close spring break on Saturday, Mar. 9, hosting the University of Southern Maine on Sabine Field in a 1:00 p.m. non-conference clash.
