Men's Ice Hockey: Cadets Stifled by Beavers

BABSON PARK, Mass.- The season ending road trip for the Norwich Men's Ice Hockey team continued Friday night with a trip to Babson in their penultimate game of the regular season.

After both sides exchanged chances early on, the Cadets would break through first four and a half minutes in. An outlet pass from the defensive zone by Jason Galotti (Hanover, Mass.) found a streaking Ben van Waterschoot (Whitby, On.) creating an odd man rush. The centering pass by van Waterschoot found Owen Sclisizzi (Milton, On.) for the opening marker. Soon after, Norwich looked to extend their lead and put pressure on Beaver goaltender Mason Rosado, but Babson weathered the storm and started getting chances of their own against Bryce Walcarius (Aylmer, On.). The opening frame would conclude with shots relatively even, and Norwich nursing a one goal lead.

Out of the break, Babson came out swinging as they looked for the equalizer. After dominating the territorial play, and a powerplay with a lot of shots but no result, the Beavers would tie things up with five minutes to play in the frame. The puck came into the Babson offensive zone which would be corralled by Danny Cavanaugh whose shot went up and over Walcarius to knot the game up at one. The final five minutes of the period were dominated by the Cadets, but Rosado kept the game tied at the second intermission.

The Norwich momentum carried into the third period, but against the flow of play, the Beavers would take the lead. A pass from the defensive zone was intercepted in the neutral zone, and Sean Senier broke in eventually breaking the tie. After the two teams exchanged unsuccessful man advantages, Norwich pushed to tie the game, but Rosado shut the door sealing a 2-1 Babson victory.

"I am disappointed in the outcome," Head Coach Cam Ellsworth said. "We need to have a quick turnaround for the regular season finale tomorrow."

That regular season finale will come against Southern Maine at 4 PM in Gorham.
