NORTHFIELD, Vt. - History was made inside Goodyear Pool early Saturday morning, as the Norwich University men's swimming & diving team hosted Saint Michael's College in an intrastate dual clash.
Despite a strong effort by the Cadets, particularly in the first half of competition, the Purple Knights ultimately came out on top, securing a 162-118 win over Norwich.
At one point, the Cadets enjoyed seven-straight solo wins, while also scooping up a victory in the 200 medley relay to kick off the day.Â
Adrian Riendeau (Ridgecrest, Calif.), Will Thompson (Downingtown, Pa.), Drew Bylow (Monroe, Mich.), and
Kristian Adlianitski (Cheshire, Conn.) comprised a team that finished first overall in 1:38.22.
Bylow, Riendeau, Thompson,
Andrew Clark (Acworth, Ga.), Adlianitski, and
Arthur Abrams (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) made up those who took individual victories, with Adlianitski and Bylow setting new records in their escapades.
Adlianitski was the first one responsible, taking to the pool in the 100 freestyle and touching the wall in 47.01, setting a new pool record en route to breaking a nine-year old record of 47.46 set by a Colby College swimmer in 2015.
In the ensuing event, Bylow placed his name on the Norwich leaderboard in both the pool and school columns, swimming a 1:57.24 in the 200 backstroke and taking first in the event. Bylow's time shattered Joseph Clark's 2019 school record of 1:57.71, while also toppling a 2017 pool record of 2:00:00, also set by a Colby College swimmer.
One more pool record was set in the final event of the day, as Bylow, Riendeau, Thompson, and Adlianitski participated in the 200 freestyle relay. The quadruplet took first place, logging a new record of 1:27.67, breaking last year's Norwich record of 1:28.49.
