NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Wrestling team returned home to the confines of Plumley Armory for their first dual meet of the season to take on Vermont State Castleton in the Battle for the Green Mountain Championship.
After the Cadets picked up three victories in the exhibition matches courtesy of
Keishon Martin (Pittsfield, Mass.),
Kade Crawford (Euless, Texas) and
James Hoyt (Hopkinton, Mass.), the Spartans got off to a hot start in the varsity matches picking up several victories.
In the 157-pound bout, freshman
Tyler Russ (Freehold, N.J.) went toe-to-toe with Castleton's Jacob Caricato in what would be a tense back-and-forth battle for all three periods. Russ would hold on for the win by decision bringing the Plumley crowd to its feet. Afterwards, the Spartans kept their foot on the gas en route to a decisive victory.
Up next, the Cadets will travel to WPI for more dual meet action on Nov. 23.
