HAMDEN, Conn. – After the weather pushed the doubleheader to Wednesday, the Norwich University Baseball team split their Great Northeast Athletic Conference penultimate doubleheader with Albertus Magnus.
The Cadets were off and running in game one, scoring three runs capitalizing on numerous Falcons miscues. After a leadoff double by
PJ Morales (Bakersfield, Calif.), the next batter,
Ryan Miller (Westhampton, N.Y.) reached on a bunt single pushing Morales to third. Morales would score soon after the pitcher threw the ball away on a pickoff attempt and moving Miller into scoring position. After moving to third, Miller came home on a
Ryland Richardson (Windsor, Vt.) sacrifice fly. The third run was
Hayden Roberge (Middlesex, Vt.) coming home on a wild pitch.
Despite Norwich scoring a run in the fourth, Albertus scored three in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. That lead lasted until the sixth when
Tyler Callahan (Arlington, Mass.) clocked a two-run home run to left field. But the Falcons responded immediately to tie the game headed into the seventh. The Cadet half started with a Miller walk. After a double by
Geffen Franus (Leesburg, Va.), Roberge was walked intentionally to load the bases. Miller became the tie-breaking run on a
Brock Carpenter (East Berlin, Pa.) sacrifice fly. A second sacrifice fly brought Franus home to give Norwich the 8-6 lead which was locked down by
John Luschinger (Durham, N.H.) who only allowed two hits in three innings of work out of the bullpen.
The Falcon bats erupted in game two, beginning with back-to-back home runs in the first inning, along with two in the second. Eventually, Albertus took home the victory.
The Cadets will wrap up their season on home field on April 28 against Anna Maria for senior day at Garrity Field. First pitch is set for 1 PM.
