BOSTON, Mass. - The Norwich Softball Team was unable to overcome the Emmanuel Saints during a Good Friday doubleheader. The Saints' combination of early offense and excellent pitching proved too much in the 0-8 and 0-16 losses.
In the first game, the Saints were able to jump out to a three run lead after the first inning and would add another five runs in the second inning. After that, the Norwich defense settled in and only allowed two more hits over the next three innings but unfortunately, the Norwich offense was never able to gain any traction. The second game saw the Cadets run into a pitching buzzsaw as Emmanuel's Mackenzie Briggs pitched a perfect game. Briggs faced 15 batters but never gave up a baserunner and had nine strikeouts. The Saint offense was consistent throughout the second game and scored in each inning.
Next up for the Cadets will be in-state rival Castleton. The Cadets will look to host the Spartans on Wednesday April 12th. So far this season, the Spartans hold a 6-8 record overall but have struggled on the road going only 2-6. This would be the first game the Cadets have played in Northfield so far this season. First game will begin at 3:30 P.M. with a 5:30 P.M. start time for the second game.
