The Norwich Wrestling team opened dual competition with two meets in a three-day span. First up was a visit to intrastate rival Vermont-State Castleton for the Battle of the Green Mountain Championship.
Before the competition got underway, freshman
James Hoyt (Hopkinton, Mass.) earned a victory by tech fall. When things got going, the Spartans picked up nine consecutive victories heading into the final match in the 285-pound class, where
Mason Sprinkel (Bel Air, Md.) pinned Evan Day at 1:28 of the first period.
Rounding out the week of dual action was a trip to WPI. After the Engineers picked up wins in the first two bouts, Norwich responded with a win by tech fall for
Joseph Lotruglio (Andover, N.J.) in the 141-pound bout with Jonah Weber. The next Cadet win was another tech fall, this one by
Joshua Ducharme (Tyngsboro, Mass.) at 165. Sprinkel would add the third win of the dual with yet another victory by fall.
Up next for Norwich is an appearance in the RIT Invitational on Dec 2.
