NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Men's Soccer team's unbeaten streak reached five games after a 1-1 draw with Elms Friday night at Sabine Field.
The Cadet attack was relentless in the first half, where they held 64% of the possession, and creating numerous opportunities in the attacking zone. However, on a late Elms counterattack, the Blazers would break the ice in the 41
st minute on a tap in from the right post, putting Norwich behind by one at the break despite a 6-3 shot advantage.
The Cadets turned up the heat even further on the Blazers in the second half with
Kam Jorgenson (Titusville, Fla.), Nathan Statires (Hampton, N.H.), and
Brice Eka (Gaithersburg, Md.) at the center of the attack. However, goalkeeper Collin Liedke would keep Norwich off the scoreboard for the time being. Liedke would end the day with six saves.
The one-goal advantage for Elms lasted until the dying minutes. In the 89
th minute,
Diego Fuentes (Valencia, Spain) was tripped in the box, granting the Cadets a penalty kick. Coming off his performance against Saint Joseph's College of Maine earlier in the week,
Cullen Swett (Williston, Vt.) was tabbed to take the shot. Swett would fool the keeper sending the ball to the bottom left corner with his left foot for the equalizer.
"While I was disappointed with the result, I liked how dominant we were throughout the game," said Head Coach
Staige Davis. "There is room for improvement when it comes to converting on chances we generate."Â Â
The Cadets will look to keep their momentum up, as they head into the stretch run of the season, when they travel to Mitchell on Oct 11 for a 3 PM kickoff.
