Women's Soccer: Late Push Not Enough as Cadets Fall to Pilgrims

NORTHFIELD, Vt.- Continuing their current homestand, the Norwich Women's Soccer team took to the turf of Sabine Field Wednesday night against New England College with the visitors picking up the 2-1 victory.

Three minutes into the game, the Pilgrims were awarded a corner kick. Off the corner, the ball found its way to the goal mouth, and with the original shot attempt being blocked, the rebound was cleaned up by Ashleigh Carolus, putting New England College ahead early. The Cadets would respond in the 15th minute. Antonia Pellon (Pownal, Vt.) dribbled down the left side and found a streaking Bella Roy (Weare, N.H.), who placed a shot to the bottom left corner underneath the diving goalkeeper levelling the score. Soon after, Norwich kept up the pressure generating two shots, but the score remained tied at halftime.

Immediately out of intermission, the Pilgrims caught a break with the ball ending up on Mia Lowenberg's right foot at the top of the box which she sent to the back of the net breaking the deadlock. The Cadets went back on the attack, where they were awarded three consecutive corners, and were repeatedly turned away. In total the Cadets generated three shots on goal in the second half.

"It was unfortunate to not get a result tonight," said Head Coach Jared Cipriano. "We did a lot of good things but just couldn't find the back of the net. We're still making improvements every game, so I hope we get back on track Saturday."

That Saturday game will take place at 6 PM against Anna Maria as part of the Parents and Family Weekend festivities.
