NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Women's Soccer team celebrated Senior Day Saturday afternoon with 1-0 victory over the University of Saint Joseph.
After the conclusion of the Senior Day festivities, the game commenced with the rain starting to come down and the Blue Jays holding the early advantage in possession. Eventually, Norwich would return the favor leading to the first corner of the game. With
Lindsey Duggan (Belmont, N.H.) taking the corner, she placed the ball at the right post for a header by
Bella Roy (Weare, N.H.) which found the bottom right corner of the goal and breaking the ice in the 25
th minute. Before the half concluded, Saint Joseph's had numerous opportunities, but came away empty handed, as none of their seven shot attempts found their way passed senior
Kayla Dawson (Brooksville, Fla.).
Out of the halftime break, Norwich came out firing with two corners, and two shots on target as they looked to double their lead. As the period wore on, the Blue Jays began to press the offense more, but the Cadet defense did not bend, and
Rebecca Karis (Fayetteville, N.C.), who took over the goalkeeping duties at halftime, made three saves before the final whistle.
"That was a great way to honor and celebrate our seniors," Head Coach
Jared Cipriano said. "The team showed up to play today and played one of our best games of the season. Getting a shutout was a great way to close out our home schedule and I'm looking forward to keeping the momentum going into our final game."Â
Norwich will look to surpass their win total from last season Tuesday night when they travel to Boston to take on Simmons to round out their schedule at 7 PM.
