NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's basketball team took a 68-44 defeat at the hands of Regis College on Thursday night's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) make-up game in Andrews Hall.
Haley Brewster (Virginia Beach, Va.) led Norwich offensively with 15 points to go with three steals, while
Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) posted 13 points and nine caroms on a 5-7 clip.
Bernier kicked off the affair on a layup just seconds in, giving Norwich an early 2-0 lead that was neutralized by a swift 5-0 spurt from the Pride's Courtney Doherty. Despite Regis' offense coming alive, the Cadets held strong, trailing just by five after an
Erika Thomas (Burlington, N.C.) bomb.
Regis found some comfort in the second frame, extending their lead to double-digits before another Cadet run trimmed the lead back down to five on back-to-back McGinn layups. The third quarter followed a similar story, as another double-digit edge was cut down to six with just minutes remaining in the stanza.
The Pride created room in the waning minutes, gradually pushing their lead to as large as 25 halfway through the fourth quarter en route to taking a 24-point victory.
Doherty led Regis with 20 points, while Jordyn Striggles, Pam Gonzalez, and Valerie Whalen tallied 15, 14, and 10 points, respectively.
Norwich will look to avenge an early-season loss to Rivier University on Saturday, Jan. 28, hosting the Raiders in a 3:00 p.m. bout to close out a weekend doubleheader.
