COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Norwich University women's rugby team placed second at the St. Michael's 7s Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Norwich (3-2) compiled a 3-2 record on the day, eventually falling 17-7 to Boston University in the final match. The Cadets rolled up wins over Univ. of Maine (34-0), Middlebury (29-0) and St. Michael's (24-7). NU also lost 12-10 to Boston University in its first pool play game of the day.
Junior Megan Sacripanti (Lithia, Fla.) scored seven tries to lead the Cadets' offense on the day. Anita DiMento (Carbondale, Colo.) and Jade Wimbish (Washington, D.C.) each tallied three tries as well for the Cadets.
Norwich fell 12-10 in its opening game of the day to Boston University. Sacripanti and DiMento each scored unconverted tries.
The Cadets rebounded in Game 2 with a 34-0 win over UMaine behind two tries each from DiMento and Sacripanti. Caitlin Burke (Greenwich, Conn.) and Wimbish also scored tries for Norwich. Wimbish knocked in two conversions.
Norwich kept rolling in its third game of the day, shutting out Middlebury 29-0. Wimbish had two tries to lead the offense, while Audriauna Greeno (Putnam, Conn.), Burke and Sacripanti added tries as well. DiMento added two conversions.
NU defeated host St. Michael's 24-7 in the semifinals behind two tries each from junior Emily Ngo (Turlock, Calif.) and Sacripanti. DiMento added two conversions.
Sacripanti tallied the lone try in the final match with DiMento hitting the conversion in a 17-7 rematch loss with Boston University.
Norwich will host Bishop's University in a 15s friendly match on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Cadets continue spring 7s series action the following weekend, traveling to the UNE 7s Tournament on April 16. Norwich will also travel to Bowdoin on April 23rd for another 7s Tournament.
