Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's lacrosse team earned their first victory over Plattsburgh State in program history Saturday afternoon at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium with a 12-10 win over the Cardinals.
Parker Campbell (Rockaway, N.J.) led the way with six points on four goals and two assists, while Callum Jones (Burlington, Ont.) scored twice while dishing out a pair of assists. Payden Masaracchia (Enola, Pa.) and Jack Haley (Falkville, Ala.) each scored three times.
In net Tommy Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) had seven saves, while Thomas Muraski (Keller, Texas) earned 12 faceoff wins for the Cadets. Campbell also caused six turnovers in the matchup.
Norwich struck first with Haley scoring 2:49 into the contest and Jones added a second goal 52 seconds later at the 11:19 mark. John Eiseman scored the first for the Cardinals before Jones and Masaracchia combined for two goals to close out the first quarter with a 4-1 lead.
In the second frame, Plattsburgh scored three-straight to even things at 4-4. Norwich would be held off the scoresheet in the second quarter.
In the Third the Cadets opened up the third quarter with a pair of goals by Haley at the 11:55 and 10:08 marks. Campbell then found an open Masaracchia with 9:47 remaining on the clock, before Campbell followed up with a goal of his own 19 seconds later.
Plattsburgh scored a pair of goals to cut the lead to 8-6, but a dish by Jack Anzalone (Ridgewood, N.J.) to Campbell with time expiring in the third quarter gave the Cadets a 9-6 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Cambell and Masarracchia combined for three goals in the fourth quarter before the Cardinals scored four straight goals to close out the contest.
Norwich (2-0, 0-0 GNAC) will be back in action on Wednesday, Mar. 9 when they travel to Massachusetts Maritime for a 7 pm matchup with the Buccaneers. They will then face Curry on Friday, Mar. 11 before hosting Southern Maine on Sunday, Mar. 13 at 2 pm at Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
