Box Score PAXTON, Mass. – Haley Brewster (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) both recorded double-doubles and Silas Bernier (Jaffrey, N.H.) added a team-high five assists Monday evening at Anna Maria in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt.
Four Cadets score five points a piece and Bernier, MacKenzie Moore (Georgia, Vt.), Erika Thomas (Burlington, N.C.), Brittany Graham (Rye, N.H.) each added points to the scoresheet. Hannah Stitely (Westminster, Md.) added four points and four assists in the game.
After Anna Maria's Franchesca Hammond opened the game with a layup, McGinn scored four straight points to put the Cadets ahead. With the game tied at 4-4, Brewster hit a three-pointer with 6:48 remaining in the quarter to retake the lead. Norwich held the lead on their way to closing out the first quarter, 19-13.
Norwich continued to expand their lead in the second quarter taking an 11-point advantage 1:19 into the frame. Norwich extended their lead to as many as 13 before the AMCATS began to chip away scoring eight straight points, cutting the lead to five. Anna Maria tied the game after a seven-point run, before Norwich scored on back to back buckets. The Cadets held a 33-31 lead at the half.
After Norwich outscored the AMCATS 18-15 in the third quarter, Norwich held a 58-51 advantage with 3:28 remaining in regulation, Hammond hit a three-pointer to cut into the Cadets' lead. Hammond's bucket sparked a seven-point run that event the contest at 58-58 with 3:06 remaining.
After the AMCATS evened things up, McGinn was able to make a layup to give the Cadets a two-point advantage. On the ensuing possession, the AMCATS Mariah Carey hit a three to take the lead, Anna Maria's first since the nine second mark of the contest.
With 32 seconds left on the clock, Brewster came down the court and hit a three-pointer giving the Cadets a 63-61 edge taking the lead and the game winning bucket.
Norwich (5-7, 3-2 GNAC) will play host the AMCATS on Wednesday evening in Andrews Hall for a GNAC tilt at 5 pm. They will then be on the road Saturday when they face off with Rivier.
