Women's Basketball: McGinn Records first Double-Double of Collegiate Career in Loss to Falcons

NEW HAVEN, Conn.Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) recorded a double-double Sunday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contests at Albertus Magnus, but the Cadets were not able to keep up with the offense of the Falcons falling, 76-57.

McGinn finished with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting and pulled down 10 rebounds, splitting them evenly on the offensive and defensive glass with five on each end. Haley Brewster (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 13 points in the contest, and Erika Thomas (Burlington, N.C.) hit a trio from three-point ending the contest with nine points.

Albertus Magnus jumped out to an early 6-2 lead behind a pair of three-pointers from Jakara Murray-Leach. Scored the opening six points of the game for the Cadets to keep Norwich within striking distance.

The Falcons held a 15-7 lead with 5:19 remaining in the opening quarter when Brewster sparked a five-point run with a layup and a three-pointer. Norwich cut the deficit down to three before Albertus scored five points in the final 50 seconds to take a 22-14 lead into the second quarter.

Albertus built upon their lead in the second quarter, pushing it to as many as 12 points with 2:36 left in the half. Norwich then saw Thomas knock down a shot from long range and Silas Bernier (Jaffrey, N.H.) added a point at the line to cut the halftime deficit down to eight.

Albertus opened up the second half with an 7-1 run, Norwich was outscored 18-14 in the third frame, but the Falcons went into the final quarter with a 54-42 advantage. In the final quarter Albertus shot 43.8 percent from the field and recorded four steals defensively to close out the contest.

Norwich (4-7, 2-2 GNAC) will play Anna Maria, tomorrow Monday, Jan. 24 at 5 p.m. in Paxton, Mass. The Cadets will then host the AMCATS on Wednesday, Jan. 26 in Andrews Hall.
