Box Score 2 NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's volleyball team got off to a hot start their two opening contests for the 2021 season, a pair of straight-set victories against Castleton (25-11, 25-16, 25-18) and NVU-Lyndon (25-8, 25-7, 25-6).
In game one against Castleton, Norwich (2-0) used a high-powered offensive output from junior Maggie McNeil (Gilford, N.H.), with a game-high 10 kills, and graduate student Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.), who collected nine kills against the Spartans, to help support the Cadet offense in the opening contest.
Kathryn Farnum moved into second all-time in career kills after collecting her sixth kill of the match off an assist from Sarah Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) to put Norwich up 21-13 in the second set.
Sarah Farnum led the way with 27 assists to go with eight digs for the Cadets. Laura Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) added eight digs of her own to support Norwich in game one.
Addison Hall (Apple Valley, Calif.) added another eight kills and assisted on two blocks and McNeil was a part of two blocks as well in the Castleton contest.
In game two, Sarah Farnum again totaled double-digit assists adding another 24, totaling 51 assists on the day. Kathryn Farnum was able to reach double-digit kills for the first time this season with 10 against the Hornets.
Hall scored eight points off her serves collecting eight aces while blocking four shots for Norwich.
The Cadets will continue the 2021 campaign on Wednesday, Sept. 8 when they travel to University of New England to take on the Nor'easters in a 6 p.m. match on Coach Beaudry's Court in the Harold Alfond Forum.
