Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over NVU Johnson on Wednesday night in non-conference action on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
Freshman Celine Juneau (Chazy, N.Y.) scored her first two collegiate goals, while senior forward Karyssa Lachance (Gorham, N.H.) added the other as Norwich won its fourth straight game vs. the Badgers.
Lachance gave Norwich a 1-0 lead just 3:25 into the game with an unassisted strike from outside the 18 to give the Cadets their first goal of the season. Lachance took a pass on the right side and dribbled around a defender before striking the ball with her left foot and curling it over the goalkeeper's head and into the back left corner of the net for the 26th goal of her career.
Norwich (1-2, 0-2 GNAC) added another goal in the 14th minute with Juneau scoring her first collegiate goal off an assist from Jillian Patria (Rindge, N.H.) after Patria's initial shot was saved by NVU Johnson goalkeeper Emily Carchia. Juneau tapped home the rebound into a wide open net to make it 2-0 Cadets.
Juneau made it 3-0 in the 49th minute with her second goal of the night, once again pouncing on a loose ball in the box and firing it into the back of the net. Sarah Rucci (West Boylston, Mass.) picked up the assist after serving the ball in on a corner kick. The ball was unable to be handled by Carchia and Juneau was first to it for the goal.
NVU Johnson (1-2) got a goal back in the 67th minute with Dulce Nino scoring off an assist from Denyce Ruiz. Ruiz passed the ball back to Nino off a free kick and then Nino curled the ball towards the back left post and into the back of the net over NU senior goalkeeper Lindsey Gordon's (Wiscasset, Maine) head.
