Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's ice hockey played its fourth overtime game in the first six games of the season on Friday night, skating to a 1-1 draw with New England College at Kreitzberg Arena in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.
Norwich (3-0-3, 2-0-3 NEHC) hosted Essex, Vt.-based Elev802 as part of its partnership with the custom hockey skills training group and its upcoming summer 2022 hockey camp to be hosted at Norwich University.
New England College (4-2-1, 2-2-1 NEHC) took the lead at the 2:55 mark of the second period with a power play goal by Conner Inger. Inger buried the puck past Norwich starting goalie Drennen Atherton (Winter Haven, Fla.) off assists from Trevor Momot and Mattias Thoren.
Norwich scored a power-play goal of its own at the 9:34 mark with Bryan O'Mara (Syracuse, N.Y.) lighting the lamp off assists from Clark Kerner (Kansas City, Kan.) and Devon Becker (Langley, British Columbia).
Atherton made the save of the game 38 seconds into overtime, robbing Inger of scoring the game-winning goal with a terrific pad save to keep it 1-1. Norwich's best chance came from sophomore defenseman Joe Nagle (Weymouth, Mass.) looking to snipe the top left corner of the net but Spencer Kozlowski made a great blocker save to stymie the chance.
Norwich will travel to Middlebury, Vt. next Friday for a 4 p.m. puck drop with Plattsburgh State to open up the 2021 First Light Great Northern ShootOut.
