Women's Soccer: Cadets drop 1-0 OT heart breaker to Castleton

Box Score

CASTLETON, Vt. - The Norwich University women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 heart breaker to intrastate rival Castleton University in overtime on Sunday afternoon at David Wolk Stadium in non-league action.

Castleton's Rylee Nichols scored with 15 seconds left in the first overtime to lift the Spartans to the victory in the first meeting between the two schools since 2014.

Nichols spoiled an otherwise brilliant performance from Norwich sophomore goalie Kim Watt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), who made a career-high 15 saves to keep the Cadets in the game, despite being outshot 33-4 in the game.

Nichols took a pass from Julia Carone on the right side of the penalty area and then beat Watt with a low shot that tucked just inside the right post and squeezed under Watt's arm as she tried to go to the ground to scoop it up.

Sophomore Karyssa Lachance (Gorham N.H) led Norwich with two shots.

Castleton earned seven corner kicks to Norwich's two.

Norwich continues its difficult schedule to start the 2019 season next weekend when the Cadets travel to the New England College Classic to take on the host Pilgrims at 1 p.m. on Friday and then Roger Williams at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
