BOSTON - The Norwich University softball team opened its 2018 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule on Tuesday night in Boston, falling twice to the Emmanuel College Saints at Roberto Clemente field.

Emmanuel (8-5, 3-1 GNAC) jumped out to early leads in both games en route to a 10-1 victory in six innings and a 9-1 win in five innings.

Norwich (0-4, 0-2 GNAC) got six hits in Game 1 from six different players and then three more hits in Game 2.

Senior Sarah Perry (New Bedford, Mass.) and freshman Madelyn Folcik (Wilmot, N.H.) notched a hit in each game to lead the Cadets' offense. 

Sophomore Makenna Wade (Pensacola, Fla.) and junior Naomi Rinaldo (Middlefield, Conn.) had a double and a triple respectively in Game 1. Junior Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) notched the Cadets' lone RBI on a sacrafice in Game 1 to score Rinaldo.  

Oliver took the loss on the mound in Game 1, while Perry was saddled with the loss in Game 2. Jenna Sprague (Brookfield, Vt.) came on in relief in both games. 

Norwich will play its first home games of the 2018 season on Thursday and Friday when it hosts Rivier University at 1 and 3 p.m. on Thursday in another GNAC doubleheader. The Cadets will then host Middlebury in non-league play on Friday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
