Box Score JOHNSON, Vt. – The Norwich University volleyball team tied the longest win streak since the 2014 season with its fifth straight win courtesy of a 3-0 sweep of Johnson State on Thursday in non-conference action.
The Cadets (5-3, 0-0 GNAC) dominated the match winning by scores of 25-9, 25-10 and 25-8 for their first road victory of 2017.
Norwich had 29 service aces, including a team-high eight from sophomore Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) to lead the way. The Cadets also tied a season-high .333 team attacking percentage in the victory.
Freshman Julia Schroeder (Victorville, Calif.) led the way for Norwich with five kills and five service aces. Sophomores Monika Schneider (Brookline, N.H.) and Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) each had four kills. Schneider also added five service aces.
Freshman Kathryn Farnum (North Andover, Mass.) had three kills, seven service aces and a team-high four digs. Junior Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) paced the offense with 15 assists.
Dawson dominated the first set, tallying seven straight service aces to close out the set victory. Johnson State built up a 6-1 lead to start the second set, but Farnum tallied four of her service aces as part of six straight points to take a 9-7 lead that the Cadets would never look back from. Norwich outscored Johnson State 16-3 over the remainder of the set to take a 2-0 lead.
The Cadets kept the momentum rolling, taking a 6-0 lead to start the third set and then cruising from there.
Norwich will travel to Hartford, Conn. this weekend to take on the Univ. of St. Joseph (Conn.) at 12 p.m. and Medgar Evers at 2 p.m. in a tri-match. The USJ match will serve as Norwich's 2017 GNAC league opener. Medgar Evers is a non-conference match.
The longest winning streak in Norwich volleyball program history is 10 games, set by the 2009 team.
