Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Simmons College on Friday night to kickoff NU Parent & Family Weekend on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
Freshman goalie Katie Bishop-Manning (New York, N.Y.) made seven saves, but it wasn't enough as the Cadets (2-9-0, 1-7-0 GNAC) gave up two goals in the opening 10 minutes and then Simmons (7-3-2, 5-2-1 GNAC) cruised from there.
Simmons opened the scoring in the sixth minute with Kashka Gammon scoring her first of two goals on the night off an assist from Kristen Mihalich. Gammon struck again just over 3:30 later, scoring her eighth of the season off an assist from Ciara Forde.
Forde created the opportunity by dribbling by a NU defender and sliding the ball over to Gammon who ran onto it and slipped it past Bishop Manning's right hand into the bottom left corner of the net as the NU keeper was coming off her line to challenge.
Mikayla Elliot increased the Simmons lead to 3-0 in the 27th minute with her seventh goal of the season coming off a feed from Gammon to complete the scoring on the night and give Gammon her fifth point.
Simmons won 10 corner kicks to Norwich's four. The Sharks outshot Norwich 20-11. Senior captain Mehgan McMullen (Northfield, Vt.) and freshman Regan Covey (Thetford, Vt.) tied for the Norwich lead with three shots each.
Simmons split the time between Casey Halle and Lauren Williams in net. Halle picked up the win after making two stops in the first half and Williams had one in the second half to preserve the shutout.
Halle's best save of the night came on a corner kick late in the first half as the Sharks' keeper smothered a shot attempt by Isabella Leister (Hartland, Vt.) off a corner kick service from Ashley Carvalho (Pinellas Park, Fla.).
Norwich returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Regis (Mass.) at 4 p.m. in another GNAC contest on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
