Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's volleyball team split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match on Friday evening, dropping a match to Albertus Magnus but rallying to pull off a win against Mount Ida in the nightcap.

The first game of the evening saw Norwich fall in a hard fought game with Albertus Magnus College, with the Falcons eventually pulling away from the Cadets to take away a 3-1 victory. The first two sets saw the teams trade identical 25-22 set wins before Albertus Magnus took the pivotal third game 25-17 and put the game away in the fourth set 25-16.

Sophomore Michele Zummo (Highland Mills, N.Y.) led the Cadet's offensive attack with a team-high 11 kills in the first game of the night. Sophomore libero Brianna Dawson (Katonah, N.Y.) led the team with 4 service aces, including three in a row at one point, and also led the team defensively with 19 digs.

The middle match of today's conference action saw Mount Ida College sweep Albertus College in three quick sets.

The Cadets squared off against the Mustangs of Mount Ida in the third and final match of Friday night, in what would prove to be the most competitive game of the night. The teams went back and forth in all three sets, swapping leads again and again before the Cadets eventually pulled out a win.

Norwich was able to take the first set relatively smoothly by a count of 25-20 but set two was a much tougher task. The two teams swapped leads several times, as the game extended itself without either team wanting to give up the win. In the end, Norwich outlasted the Mustangs and eventually took the set 31-29. In set number three the Cadets closed out the set on a 6-2 run to take it by a final of 25-21.

The third match of the day saw the Cadets put up a true team effort, as they collectively amassed 39 kills, 8 service aces, and 57 digs. Junior Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) was all over the stat sheet with 5 kills, a .308 attack percentage, and 5 digs to go along with her team-leading 32 assists.

The win marks the end of a significant losing skid for the Cadets as they get back to their winning ways in a season that saw the team win 9 of their first 12 games before dropping 10 in a row. Norwich will look to keep the momentum rolling on Wednesday night at home when in-state rival Castleton College rolls into Andrews Hall for a 7:00 P.M game.
