Box Score LYONDONVILLE, Vt. - The Norwich University women's volleyball team utlized a tight three-set battle to complete the 3-0 sweep by scores of 25-21, 25-20, 25-23 over host Lyndon State College on Wednesday night.
The win puts the Cadets at 4-10 on the year, while the Hornets fall to 5-9 overall.
Freshman outside hitter Emily Oliver (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) led the Cadets' offensive attack with a season-high 11 kills and two service aces on the night. Senior Tara Lyons (Pocassett, Mass.) recorded six kills along with two aces and a pair of blocks.
Sophomore setter Katie Crane (Avon, N.Y.) collected 11 assists with an ace of her own, while junior Alex Ruediger (Sandy Lake, Pa.) led the defensive efforts with a team-high 16 digs and a block assist for NU.
The Hornets were led by junior Gwyneth Stahl (Whitinsville, Mass.) with eight kills, seven assists and three block solos on the night. Senior outside hitter Ashley Barski (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) tallied five kills and four assists with a pair of service aces and 16 digs, as junior Kelleigh Murtagh (Merrimack, N.H.) collected a team-high 18 digs for Lyndon State.
The Cadets will retur to league play on Saturday, Oct. 17 as they host Rivier and Albertus Magnus in a tri-match contest. Norwich will take on Rivier University for the opening round at 12 p.m. before closing out the day with a brief recognition of the two seniors before the 4 p.m. contest against Albertus Magnus.
