Box Score NEWTON, Mass. – The Norwich University men's soccer team won its fourth straight match with a big 2-1 road victory over Lasell College on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Norwich (6-3-1, 2-0-1 GNAC) got goals from sophomore forward Jacob Zimmerman (Litchfield, N.H.) and junior forward Ludo Kamga (Tunis, Tunisia), while senior goalkeeper Christian Hallstrom (Las Vegas, Nev.) made 10 saves to lead the Cadets to the victory.
Norwich opened the scoring early in the first half, a well-placed ball by freshman midfielder Colin Lozito (Wilmington, Vt.) setup Zimmerman at the top left corner of the 18-yard box and Zimmerman coolly fired a low shot past a diving Colmenares just inside the right post to make it a 1-0 in the seventh minute of play.
Four minutes after being introduced to the action, Lasell's Newton Jordao struck a swerving ball from outside the top of the 18-yard box that darted left and past Hallstrom just inside the left post to even the score at 1-1 in the 31st minute.
Norwich re-took the lead in the 41st minute when a dipping strike from Kamga from 30 yards out eluded Colmenares and found the back of the net to give the Cadets a 2-1 advantage at the break.
Lasell (4-4-0, 2-1-0 GNAC) turned up the pressure in the second half in search of the equalizer. The Lasers had several second half chances, including a rocket from Jon Sutton in the 75th minute that nearly beat Hallstrom. Another chance from Conor Fitzgerald in the 82nd minute that delected off the fingers of Hallstrom and toward the goal line, only to see the senior keeper scramble back and stop it just on the line.
Lasell outshot Norwich 23-6, including 11-0 in the second half of the match. The Lasers also had 12 corner kicks to none for Norwich.
The win not only avenged last season's 3-1 defeat to Lasell in the GNAC Tournament semifinals, but it also marked Norwich's first win at Lasell's home pitch since 2008.
Norwich will look to stretch its winning streak to five straight when it hosts Plymouth State at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
