Women's Rugby: Cadets' quick start keys 39-5 win over Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Norwich University women's rugby team opened up its 2014 Northeast Women's Rugby Conference (NWRC) season with an impressive 39-5 road victory over Army at the Anderson Rugby Complex.

Norwich (2-1, 1-0 NWRC) improved to 4-0 all-time against West Point with the victory.

Seniors Sophie Mundell (Eagle River, Alaska) and Ally Murphy (Aurora, N.Y.), along with junior Valerie McGuire (Felts Mills, N.Y.) each scored two tries to lead the Cadets' offense on the day. Freshman Denisse Zambon (Bronx, N.Y.) also added a try for Norwich as well.

Junior flyhalf Hannah Bell (Newberg, Ore.) finished 2-for-7 on conversions for the day to round out the Cadets' offense.

Norwich raced out to a 20-0 halftime lead and only surrendered points late in the second half as the Cadets won their second straight match after they opened up the season with a 43-27 loss to Penn State last Saturday.

Norwich returns home to the NU Dog River Rugby Pitch to host American International College (AIC) next Saturday, Sept. 20 at 11 a.m.
