NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University volleyball team won its fifth straight match with a dominant 3-0 sweep of Lyndon State on Wednesday night at Andrews Hall Gym in non-conference action.
Senior Kelsey Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) and junior Tara Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) led the team with eight kills each as Norwich (9-8) won in straight sets by scores of 25-9, 25-19 and 25-12.
Senior Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.) had six kills for the Cadets, while freshman setter Katherine Crane (Avon, N.Y.) had 18 assists to pace the offense. Lyons led Norwich with four service aces. Palmer and sophomore Alex Ruediger (Sandy Lake, Pa.) led Norwich's defensive efforts with six digs, while Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) had four digs.
Lyndon State (6-9) was led by two kills each from Joy Piper and Kelleigh Murtagh. Piper had nine digs and Laura Drake picked up eight digs to lead the Hornets defensively.
Norwich will look to continue their hot streak this weekend when it hosts Johnson & Wales (R.I.) and Mount Ida in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match starting at noon on Saturday, Oct. 11.
