Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – Senior forward Kelsie Dumas netted a pair of goals to lead the Emmanuel College women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Norwich University on Wednesday night. The host Saints out-shot the Cadets, 26-2, on the night.
Norwich (2-7-1, 0-5-1 GNAC) got some early offense from rookie forward Tiana Cass (Torrington, Conn.), who made a couple of runs at the Saints' net and fired off the Cadets' lone shot-on-goal for the game. The Saints' defensive line, powered by junior captain Ari Cardillo was there to thwart any early Norwich attempts. Overall, the Emmanuel defense allowed the visiting Cadets just two shots on the night, with both coming in the first half.
Dumas got Emmanuel (6-7, 4-2 GNAC) on the board mid-way through the first half, dribbling around Norwich's charging keeper and netting her seventh goal of the season. Junior midfielder Katelyn Fink dished out the assist on what would hold up as the game-winning goal, as EC took a 1-0 lead at 20:09. The Saints carried their 1-0 lead into the break at halftime, holding a 16-2 shooting advantage.
Emmanuel's rookie forward Haley Longbottom was unable to convert a cross in the box late in the second half. Dumas then had a great look with 16:30 remaining, but Norwich's sophomore keeper Molly Miller (Raymond, Maine) was there for the stop.
It was in the 85th minute that Dumas connected on her second marker of the night. Emmanuel junior Molly Carey lifted a nice corner kick into the box and Dumas was there for the tap in, giving Emmanuel a 2-0 lead. Dumas' eighth goal of the season moved the senior captain into the slot as the conference's third leading scorer.
Dumas just missed on a hat-trick, firing off a shot with just over a minute to go, but her shot sailed high and Emmanuel came away with the 2-0 win.
Freshman goalie Victoria Laroche earned the win in net for the Saints, improving to 4-6 on the season and recording her second career shut-out. Miller faced 14 Emmanuel shots-on-goal and made saves on 12 of them in the effort for the Cadets.
Norwich will host Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Friday, October 10th, in a 4:30 PM start.
