Box Score 2 BOSTON - The Norwich University volleyball team split a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) trimatch with Simmons and Saint Joseph's (Maine).
Norwich (11-10, 4-3 GNAC) fell 3-0 to Simmons in its first match of the day before rebounding for a 3-0 straight set victory over Saint Joseph's (Maine) in the second match.
Junior Tara Lyons (Pocasett, Mass.) had eight kills to lead Norwich against Simmons, but it wasn't enough as the Cadets lost by scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-13. Kelsey Mancini (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Alma Turpin (Sterling, Va.) each had seven kills, while freshman Katherine Crane (Avon, N.Y.) had 23 assists for the Cadets.
Norwich rebounded in the second match, sweeping the Monks in straight sets 26-24, 33-31 and 25-22. Mancini led the Cadets with 14 kills and a .370 hitting percentage. Senior Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.) had 12 kills and 16 digs. Sophomore Alex Ruediger (Sandy Lake, Pa.) had 17 digs to lead the Cadets, while junior Angie Hershberger (Felton, Calif.) had 13 digs. Senior Corinne Baita (Rochester, N.H.) led Norwich with a team-high 31 assists.
Norwich returns to the court on Wednesday, when it travels to Colby-Sawyer for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
